Award winning chef Aazam Ahmad brought his culinary expertise into the classroom this week, with a special Feel Good Festival warm up show at Shawclough Community Primary School.
Pupils from All Saints Community Primary School and Healey Primary School joined children at Shawclough for a live two hour cooking demonstration from the enigmatic BBC Fusion chef.
Around 180 pupils took part in the ‘masterclass’ where Aazam demonstrated a variety of recipes using eggs as the main ingredient. Omelettes, spicy egg tortilla and apple crumble cake were all on the menu. The children then got the chance to taste the food, which they described as ‘delicious.’
During the morning the children learnt about different ingredients, how to make food healthier and the importance of washing your hands first.
Aazam said he wanted the children to have fun: “It was great to get everyone tasting different ingredients and seeing what can be done with everyday fruit and vegetables. I kept it simple but fun today and I think everyone really enjoyed it. The children had been learning all about cookery already, including things like food hygiene and bacteria so it fitted in well. They all got involved and it was good to see children from three schools all together.”
Many of the children said they were going to try some of Aazam’s recipes at home with their parents.
Later this month Aazam will be taking his live show to the supermarket. He’ll be visiting shoppers in Tesco Rochdale on Saturday 30 July before his appearance in the celebrity kitchen at this years Rochdale Feel Good Festival in August.
