Motorists urged to avoid Bridge Street, Heywood
Date published: 02 July 2010
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area around Bridge Street, Heywood on the A58 after a hole opened up in the road yesterday.
The hole has appeared outside the old Salvation Army premises, opposite LIDL supermarket.
Temporary traffic lights will be used to replace and control traffic flows at the Pilsworth Road junction which is nearby.
A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: “Work is to commence this morning (Friday 2 July 2010) and will, if necessary, continue over the weekend in order to minimise disruption and inconvenience to users.
“There is expected to be a significant impact on traffic flows at peak periods.
“The cause is unknown at this stage.”
