New funding to improve Middleton Gardens
Date published: 01 July 2010
A £2 million scheme to breathe new life into Middleton Gardens has been unveiled.
Rochdale Borough Council has allocated £2 million to improve the area, with the money being used to resurface pathways, improve landscaping, and extend the high quality public spaces in the town centre.
Rochdale Development Agency (RDA) is managing the delivery of the scheme on behalf of Rochdale Borough Council and Middleton Township.
Initial studies are now being carried out by the RDA and the council before plans for the improvements are handed over to architects.
Middleton Township Chairman Councillor Peter Williams said: “This scheme represents another important step in the regeneration of Middleton Town Centre.
“The extension and improvement of the pedestrianised areas and the creation of good quality public spaces was always a high priority for the Township and it is great to see this now taking shape. We will continue to consult with local people as the plans progress.”
He added:“It will be great to see all these plans come together giving the final touches to a Middleton town centre fit for the 21st Century.”
John Hudson, Chief Executive of the Rochdale Development Agency, said: “The new funding is vital to completing the transformation of the Middleton Gardens area and shows our continuing commitment to Middleton.”
