Former Mayor raises thousands for charity
Date published: 01 July 2010
Last year’s Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift, has raised more than £17,500 for his Mayoral charities.
The money will be split equally between three organisations all with a theme close to his heart - music.
The Rochdale Music Service, the Rochdale Youth Orchestra and the Backdoor Music Project will each benefit from the charity.
The funds will help to promote the learning, playing and appreciation of all kinds of music, from classical to rock, by young people throughout the borough.
In addition to generous donations from local organisations and individuals, Councillor Swift held a number of fundraising charity events, including a Charity Ball at Rochdale Town Hall, a Christmas Concert, a ‘Lancashire Neet’ and a St George’s Day event.
Reflecting on his year, Councillor Keith Swift said it has been a pleasure to work with the charities: “I would really like to thank the good people of the borough once again for all their generous donations. I will continue to host charity nights in restaurants around the borough and hope to see friends and supporters of the charities there.”
