Healey Primary School

Date published: 29 June 2010

The Arts Week was an enormous success and the activities the children enjoyed ranged from cookery demonstrations with hands-on fun through to musical experiences of all cultures, dance, sport and art. The children were delighted all week, and although exhausted, it was well worth the effort for all concerned. The school is awash with colour and creativity.

Special thanks to Mrs Proctor and her team for the week of menus from around the world, Samba Dance who really pulled out all the stops, Michael Giverin and Jay for a full day of blue grass music (turning our violin players into ‘fiddlers’ for the afternoon) and finally Bamford Primary School who entertained us with their steel band on Friday morning. Thank you to everyone who joined in the spirit of the week. We think it was a true celebration of gaining Silver Artsmark.

Last week saw a visit from the Skybolt Rocket and all the children became involved in a super science workshop – although we did worry about the ceiling tiles once or twice. We look forward to continuing to work with Bradford University on this project.

Next week will see our Sports Day on the first fine day of the week, which could be as soon as Monday or as late as Friday. Children should have kit and trainers in school every day. Children will be advised on which team they are in so they can wear the appropriate colour. Parents are advised to check mobile phones as a text alert will go out to confirm the sports day is taking place. Parents are warmly welcomed as spectators but we politely ask that they remain in the designated areas.

As we approach the end of the school year, the office staff are keen to sign off all outstanding accounts. The deadline for Music Tuition payment is Monday 5 July. Out of School Club bills should also be settled before the end of term. We also ask that where possible, dinner money be paid up until the end of term (by doubling next week). This would be extremely helpful.

Well done to the children who were presented with the Achievement Award last week and the previous week ending 18 June:

Reception:   Aliesha Mohammed, Niamh Poole
Year 1:        Alicia Quinlan, Hannah Khan
Year 2:        Nadia Riley, Aimee Hodson
Year 3:        Megan Hughes, Sam Walker
Year 4:        Georgia Chambers, Lewis Brooks
Year 5:        Rebecca Lambert, Abigail Hoyle
Year 6:        Annabella Hill-Metcalfe, Lauren Lomax and Jack Payne

Year 3 achieved 100% attendance last week too, well done.

All children should have brought home School Reports on Friday. This year we have enclosed a ‘comments slip’ for parents to make a comment on the report, should they wish. There is also the opportunity to discuss the report at an informal (no appointments) Open Evening on Tuesday 6 July, 3.30 till 5.00pm.
