GMP Chief Constable in first web chat

Date published: 29 June 2010

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Peter Fahy will give local people a chance to question him about policing in a first web chat.

The web chat is the first opportunity people have had to go online to quiz the man responsible for policing across the whole of the county. It takes place on Monday 5 July from 7pm live on the GMP website www.gmp.police.uk

Mr Fahy said: “I am really looking forward to this and to giving local people the opportunity to question me directly about policing. We have seen some significant reductions in crime, which is at its lowest level for a decade. But we still need to cut crime further and increase public confidence.

“We are focused on providing the best possible service for the people of Greater Manchester and are committed to delivering our Policing Pledge. So speaking to people across Greater Manchester is important at all levels from Neighbourhood Policing Team to Chief Constable.

“I hope this goes well and we can then make it a regular opportunity for people to ask me about the issues of the day.”

For people who are not able to go online during the web chat there will be an opportunity to leave questions for the Chief before through the website. The Chief Constable will not be able to answer questions about specific crimes or incidents but will ensure the information is sent to the right place if it is about the service they have received.

The web chat will be able to be followed live on the website during the evening with a transcript of the questions and answers available once it has concluded
