Our Year 6 children had a special treat on Monday morning when they, along with other schools, visited Healey Primary as part of the “Space For Schools” programme.

Starchaser Industries develop rockets. The children got to look at the Starchaser Skybolt rocket close up and to take part in workshops. They looked at the different types of fuels involved and listened to the different noises each fuel made when lit. Thank you Year 6 children for your excellent behaviour.

Our Nursery children went for a lovely walk to learn about the local area this week. They looked at interesting places near to school, played on the play park and went down to the canal to feed the ducks.

Miss Bates took the Community Cohesion group to St Gabriel’s Primary for the last of this year’s meetings. It was on the same day as the England football match so they were allowed to wear their football shirts to the meeting. The children designed a community banner and village.

Five of our Year 6 children took part in the “World Class Arena” maths tests this week. This is only offered to selected children throughout the world and the children chosen by school did very well each scoring a pass with 3 children getting a distinction. Well done all of you.

It was party time on Thursday after school for the children who had taken part in the English Speaking Board programme. They had their exam in the afternoon and although they don’t know their results yet, Miss Kelly said they did extremely well. Thank you, children for your hard work and special thanks to Miss Kelly and Miss Regan for their guidance.

Our year 5 children went to Springhill High School on Friday for the first of two taster sessions. The next one will be at Balderstone; the sessions aim to give children an insight in to life at high school.

Congratulations, Maqadaas and Alicia on being the next children to benefit from our work experience programme. Thank you to the Children’s Centre and the Community Centre for your help with this.

Children moving from year 2 to year 3 in September had their own taster session on Friday when they spent an hour in their new classes. The children met their new teachers and looked around the area of the school they will be in from September.

Attendance winners this week were Mrs Taylor’s, Mrs Clayton/Mr Dysch’s and Mrs Isherwood’s classes. Early Bird Awards went to Mrs Afzal’s and Mrs Roberts’ classes. Winners of the 100% weekly attendance prizes went to Zain and Usman.
