Pupils get a lesson on forensics

Date published: 22 June 2010

Pupils from Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College at Cornfield Street, Milnrow investigated a mock crime scene as part of a one-day forensics workshop. The students investigated a scenario and learnt about how detectives solve crimes.

During the day they were taught fingerprint techniques and how to analyse footprints. They also made casts of their thumbs and were given a presentation about interactive human body simulation STAN.

PCSO Angela Smith for Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “I organised the event to support the year nine science enrichment day. It was designed to teach the pupils about the different roles police and police staff play. Children were also given the chance to get kitted out and see what it’s really like to be a member of the crime scene investigation team.

“The day got some positive feedback from the pupils and I know that many really thrived on the opportunity to get into character.”

Clare Beckham, head of physics at Hollingworth Business and Enterprise College, said: “The students had a really enthusiastic approach to the day and feedback from everyone including staff has been overwhelmingly positive.”
