Norden Carnival 2010
Date published: 19 June 2010
The Norden community came together once again today (Saturday 19 June 2010) to watch the annual village carnival.
Edenfield Road, Norden, was lined with hundreds of people supporting the carnival. The procession began at Caldershaw Primary School; it passed through the village and turned around at the old bus terminus before heading up to Norden Community Primary School for a fun fair.
The theme for this year’s carnival was ‘What’s on TV’ and the parade was full of people dressed up as characters from their favourite shows, including, ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here,’ and children’s favourite ‘Bill and Ben.’
Paul Rothwell from Bamford was watching the parade with his son Isaac, 6, waiting for his daughter Elizabeth, 4, from Whittaker Moss Primary School to pass through, he said: “It is a great day, it always brings all the community together and that is nice because you don’t see as much community spirit nowadays.”
The parade was led by Jim Dobbin, MP for Middleton and Heywood and Councillors' Ann Metcalfe and James Gartside.
Mr Dobbin was delighted with the carnival, he said: “It has been another lovely day it is very colourful and there are loads of children involved which is great.
“It is very nice to see people enjoying themselves, everyone seems nice and relaxed.”
Councillor Metcalfe praised the organisers for their hard work, she said: “We have had a brilliant turn out once again. The carnival is so well organised everyone has made such a great effort.
“Today is a really good family day out and hopefully we will have raised a lot of money for local charities.”
Councillor Gartside added: “I am so grateful to the organisers a huge amount of effort has gone into this, there has been lots of time and trouble put in but at the end of the day it is phenomenal.”
The winner of the best dressed window for this year’s carnival went to Norden Studio.
The studio won a shield which they will hold for one year. The studio's winning window was linked with the carnival TV theme and Norden Studio linked the photography with the TV Programme America's Next Top Model.
They held a competition on the day to find Norden's Next Top Model.
The winner was Louise Wellman and she will have a 2 hour photoshoot at the studio and 6 8x10 prints.
