Woman robbed of handbag in Rochdale

Date published: 16 June 2010

A woman was robbed of her handbag as she walked home in Rochdale.

At about 11.45pm on Tuesday 11 May 2010, the 60-year-old woman was walking home from the Firgrove Club along Larchway when she heard footsteps behind her.

She felt someone tugging at her handbag, which was on her shoulder.

The woman tried to keep hold of her bag but it was pulled from her grip, causing her to spin around and fall into the road.

The robber ran off towards Rochdale Road.

He was described as a white man, 5ft 8in tall, of medium build, with dark hair. He was wearing a hooded top and white trainers.

The robber got away with the woman's brown handbag in which was a long black Radley purse, cash, credit and debit cards, a pink Samsung phone, photographs and her diary.

The woman suffered bruising to her hand.

Detective Sergeant Sam Halligan, based at Rochdale Police Station, said: "Luckily, the woman was not badly injured but was very upset to lose such personal possessions as her diary and photographs.

"We have been working hard to find the person responsible and if you know something that might help or have been offered any of the items from the bag, please contact me."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 8632 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
