Saint Cuthbert High School
This week’s theme was National Refugee Week and our Enterprise capability was Determination. Thank you to Mrs Maloney and the volunteers from her Year 10 Drama Group who performed a powerful response to a story of a refugee aged just 9 years old. The performance took place during Year 10 assembly and was filmed as a resource for other schools to use.
Celia Maloney – retired Head of Year 7 here at St Cuthbert’s, came to collect the donation from Lenten Charities activities on behalf of Francis House. The tradition of supporting Francis House began under Celia's reign and after she retired, she continued to work for the charity and now visits schools in the local area to promote awareness. Michael Walsh and Emma Dixon from form 7.7 were chosen to present the cheque. Form 7.7 raised the largest total in the year group and these two pupils made a fantastic effort. An excellence in Science gift voucher was presented to Jennifer Anderton, form 7.9, for her amazing work this term. Smart card winners were Oliver Burleigh form 7.6, Ellie Mullins form 7.7 and Kensy Richardson form 7.2.
GCSE and A Level exams are now well under way. Study rooms are available for all students who are not in a timetabled exam. Please note the paved area around the back of the sports hall is not available at breaks and lunch times during the exam period – please use the senior yard, all weather pitch and fields for playing ball games.
Building work to improve the area around the Year 11 Centre and the PLC has begun – please note events cannot take place in the PLC during this last half term. Please liaise with Mrs Moore for an alternative venue.
