Change of status for Kingsway school
Date published: 14 June 2010
The decision to give Kingsway Park High School National Trust Status has been approved.
This means the school will open as a foundation school with a majority Trust, whereby the Trust will appoint the majority of the governors in accordance with government regulations.
The new Trust is Rochdale Council’s response to the ‘National Challenge’ whereby each local authority sets out clear proposals to ensure that at least 30% of pupils in all secondary schools achieve five or more GCSE A*-C Grades including English and maths.
To attain these goals a different trust is needed, in this case, a trust which appoints the majority of its governing body.
The trust will take decisions regarding general direction of the school and to make sure standards in the new school improve in line with an agreed improvement plan.
The trust will have five directors. Two appointed from Middleton Technology School Governing Body, two from the Rochdale Sixth Form college governing body and one appointed by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.
The change does not affect applications for places to the new school nor does it affect teaching arrangements for the new school
