Deeplish Primary School

Date published: 13 June 2010

Thank you to Deeplish Children’s centre and Deeplish Community Centre for offering work experience to some of our Year 6 children. The children will carry out various tasks under the supervision of the centre managers. Hasan and Kardo were the first two year 6’s to benefit this year and have found it a worthwhile experience.

Coaches from Rochdale Hornets Rugby Club have been in all week working with classes across school. Pupils are also following the progress of World Cup football, learning about how the tournament works and about the different countries and teams involved.

Miss Regan’s class went to Hollingworth Lake on Monday afternoon to take part in sailing and kayaking. They got very wet but had a great time!
Congratulations to Nazma Ahmed who will be joining us in September after her successful interview for the post of Family Learning Support Worker. Well done, we are looking forward to working with you again.

The Deeplish Parent Partnership held its first event this week. Mrs Vickers and the group organised a “Curriculum Evening” where parents, carers and friends could come in to school to take part in activities in the classrooms which will help them understand how the curriculum is taught to their children. It was a tremendous success. Students from Springhill High School entertained in the hall to set off the proceedings. Thank you Mrs Vickers and the Partnership members for all your hard work.

Year 5 children got thoroughly wet but enjoyed themselves at Burrs Activity Centre on Wednesday. They took part in kayaking, raft building, archery and rock wall climbing. Thank you, Year 5, for your excellent behaviour and good humour.

Year 6 transitional Circle Time has now started for some children who will be attending Kingsway Park High School next year. Thank you, Mrs Suthers-Latif, for organising this. It will benefit our children greatly.

Manchester City training ground was the venue for the Key Stage 1 football tournament entered by our pupils. 8 boys from years 1 and 2 played five matches against other schools from Greater Manchester. Miss Butterworth and Mrs Davis would like to thank the children for their sportsmanship and for not moaning when their teachers got lost on the way! You were a pleasure to be with!

A special Full Governing Body meeting was held to discuss possible changes to the Primary Capital Programme for the school and have agreed a new attendance policy.

The weekly achievement assembly had some welcome visitors on Friday. As well as all the children’s certificates, some parents were presented with certificates by Mrs Ahmed for completing a “Be Healthy” course with their children in Reception. Well done all of you.

Attendance Champions of the week were Miss Butterworth’s and Mrs Clayton/Mr Dysch’s classes. Early birds were Mrs Afzal’s, Mrs Roberts’ and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Well done, Ayoub and Farrah on receiving prizes for 100% attendance for the week.
