People of Rochdale show their support for the England team
Date published: 12 June 2010
Football fans across Rochdale have decorated their homes to show their support for the England team.
With just a few hours to go until England compete in the first game of the World Cup; Rochdale Online reporter Laura Wild had a look around the borough for some of the best decorated houses.
England flags make an appearance on many houses and shops throughout Rochdale and some streets have really gone the extra mile to show they are backing the players.
Clemshaw Close and Brayshaw Close in Heywood clubbed together to get their street ready for today’s match and are keen to keep the decorations up until the tournament finishes in a months’ time.
Carol Boswell from Clemshaw Close said: “We did it four years ago and it was great so we decided to carry it on, it has taken a lot of organisation but the end result is brilliant.”
Mrs Kershaw of Hornby Street, Heywood, decorated the house this week for her football mad son Steven.
Steven, 28, wrapped himself up in an England flag for a photograph and insisted England will be lifting the World Cup this year.
The Lawless family on Lennox Street appeared on ITV Granada last night (Friday 11 June 2010) because their house and the neighbours on either side had attracted some attention.
