Rochdale policeman hangs up handcuffs after 32 years

A Rochdale police officer has hung up his handcuffs after 32 years of service to Greater Manchester Police.

PC Stephen Splaine finished his career at the Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team in Rochdale, having served there since 2002.

He worked in departments across the Force and first joined as a cadet in 1978 before spending seven and a half years in Eccles on Salford Division.

PC Splaine said: “My time as an officer has given me the chance to make some great friends both in the police force and the community. Together we have been able to see the arrests of known offenders who have caused pain to the communities they live in.

“One of my proudest moments was my nomination of brave police officer of the year for the part I played in the rescue of an vulnerable male from a flat fire. This coupled with several other incidents makes you appreciate the role you play in the community.”

Chief Superintendent John O’Hare for Rochdale Division commented: “I have worked with Steve in a number of roles over the years and I have always been impressed by his drive and commitment. He has left a positive impression on a lot of people and we will miss his infectious enthusiasm.”
