Half of mums dread World Cup

Half of the mothers in the North West are dreading the World Cup according to a survey of 3000 women, with finances and television access a particular preoccupation.

The poll, carried out by Littlewoods, revealed that half will be irritated by football matches replacing their favourite programmes whilst a fifth are worried about the additional costs brought about by barbecues and World Cup parties.

A third of women fear that they will see less of their partners and children during the tournament in South Africa and a quarter are even prepared to bribe their men not to watch the games with offers of days out and avoiding chores.

One in five anticipate that they will row because of football and one in ten are prepared to slap an embargo on the matches.

On the other hand, one in three mothers from the region see the World Cup as a an exciting opportunity to spend more time with their families and may even organise parties themselves.

Gareth Jones, Retail Director at Littlewoods.com said: “With 57% of partners planning to tune in to the action from the comfort of their own home, the football will be a huge part of our family life this summer.”
