New Assistant Chief Constable Appointed

A new Assistant Chief Constable has been appointed by Greater Manchester Police.

Dawn Copley, currently a Chief Superintendent in Lancashire Constabulary, was appointed on Monday (7 June 2010) by Greater Manchester Police Authority following an intensive interview process.

Mrs Copley said: “I joined the police because I was really interested in serving the public in a dynamic environment. I am really passionate about delivering the highest quality of service to the public across everything we do.

“That is something that has lived throughout my career and was behind my decision to join GMP as it deals with a great range of complex issues and is committed to serving the public.

“I have spoken to many people and have been struck by how supportive they are about the work that GMP officers do on their behalf in communities.”

Mrs Copley, who joined the Lancashire force in 1987, was one of four candidates interviewed.

Appointments Panel chairman Cllr Paul Murphy, who is also chairman of GMPA, said: “GMP is one of the largest forces in the country. Our officers are among the best there is and our chief officer vacancies always attract the highest calibre of applicants.

“The interview process is designed to ensure the most suitable candidate for the role is appointed and that has certainly been the case.”

Mrs Copley, who has a Master of Science Degree in Police Leadership and Management, is expected to take up the GMP post within the next three months.
