Oulder Hill Community School
Before the holidays 'Not Strictly Eurovision' took place in the Gracie Fields Theatre. This event, which was organised by the REAL Trust and LA School Improvement Team as well as members of staff at Oulder Hill, was a huge success and gave primary schools from all over the Borough the opportunity to showcase their singing talent. Pupils aged 5 to 11 took part, with each school singing a song in the native language of their chosen country. From the original 23 schools, 10 made it through to the grand final, which was won by St Peter’s in Middleton, closely followed by St Vincent’s and All Souls. Thank you and congratulations to everyone that took part and again, a massive thanks to Odette Hunt, the REAL Trust and the School Improvement Team for your input and support in putting this event on – we know that everyone involved really benefited from it.
Some of Oulder Hill’s singers and musicians got the opportunity to show off their talents at Redwood recently – they were only too happy to accept the kind offer to provide the music for the official opening of the new 6th Form kitchen. Thank you so much to Redwood for giving our students this opportunity.
All ten of our Year 7 forms took part in an action-packed day of activities at Burrs Country Park in Bury just before half term. We would like to thank them for their effort and enthusiasm and willingness to take part. Their behaviour was fantastic and they were a credit to themselves and the school. We would also like to thank Ms Newell, Miss Ward, Mrs Tracey and all the other staff that were involved in planning and running the weeklong event and putting together such a worthwhile experience that will be of huge benefit to the students. The events the students took part in were designed to encourage team and confidence building and included ‘the Cross Canal Challenge’, Raft Building, Rock Climbing and Low Ropes. Students thought it was “amazing”.
On Monday we welcomed over 200 pupils and staff from 8 primary schools for International Day. Our Language Faculty together with teachers from subjects such as PE and Expressive Arts and Food Technology, put together a programme of Portuguese and Italian lessons, Pétanque, African Rhythm, Salsa Dancing, Drama, Food sampling and Japanese Art. Thank you to Mrs. Harrison, Director of Languages and to Odette Hunt for organising this event.
