'Big Tick' for British Transport Police
Date published: 08 June 2010
The North West British Transport Police (BTP) have retained their ‘Big Tick’ in Business in the Community’s (BITC’s) 2010 Awards for Excellence for their commitment to education.
The re-accreditation recognises the work BTP has carried out with children and educational establishments through Your Choice conferences and other processes including partnership work with Network Rail, train operating companies and Radio City.
Chief Superintendent Peter Holden, Area Commander for BTP in the North West, said: “I am delighted BTP has retained its Big Tick status for education.
“As a force, and as an area, we are fully committed to working with young people and the awards panel has clearly recognised this in granting re-accreditation.’’
The Big Tick award is the first level of award available to entrants of the BITC national Awards for Excellence. The scheme rewards businesses who demonstrate the positive impact they have had on society, and also the business benefits created by ensuring that being responsible is integral to their business model.
Chief Supt Holden added: “This is the fifth year in which we have received a Big Tick from Business in the Community which, I believe, underlines our drive towards excellence and our desire to work with our partner agencies and the communities we serve.
“Across the area we are committed to working with younger generations to educate them about the potential dangers posed by the railways.
“Route crime is a major issue for BTP and sadly it is often children and young adults who engage in this activity, usually in the form of trespass.
“The idea behind the programme of conferences, and our other commitments, is to improve the children’s awareness of the dangers associated with route crime and other anti social behaviour within the railway environment and to present these in a way that is accessible and understandable.”
