Deeplish Primary School
Miss Butterworth and Mrs Davis spent a lovely, sunny evening with the Year 5/6 Rounder’s team at Balderstone High School who were taking part in a tournament with 12 other schools. They played extremely well winning all but one of their matches. Well done!
The Peacemaker Group visited Year 5 and Year 2 children in school this week with the continuing theme of ‘Tell It Like It Is’ talking about acceptance of differences between people and mutual respect.
Our Reception children had a lovely treat when they visited La Mancha restaurant in Rochdale. They ate lots of lovely Spanish food and experienced what it is like in a restaurant. They are going to be creating their own restaurant as part of their structured play.
Red, white and blue were the predominant colours on Wednesday when school held its annual and very popular French Day. Children took part in various activities and tasted different foods such as camembert, brioche and croissants. The kitchen provided a lovely French themed meal of beef bourguignon and savoury crêpes followed by chocolate gateau and sweet crêpes. It was also a very sad day for school when we had to say “au revoir” to Claire, our very popular Modern Foreign Language assistant.
Key Stage 2 pupils picked their French teams to play in the World Cup and the whole school tried out a French recipe for yoghurt cake which turned out to be delicious. We thank her for all her hard work and wish her all the best for the future as she travels to Colombia!
Healey Dell was the venue for enjoyable days out by our Year 5 and 6 children. They went on nature walks, took part in pond dipping and did sketches of the river Spodden which runs through Healey Dell. The children will follow this up with art work as part of their themed work on Rivers.
Mrs. Bull, head teacher of Kingsway Park, visited school to meet with parents of Year 5 pupils.
Congratulations to Mrs Lashley and Miss Kiely who were successful in interviews for two teaching posts and will be joining us in September.
Attendance champions of the week were Mrs. Akhtar’s and Miss Regan’s classes with Mrs Taylor’s and Mrs Isherwood’s classes winning the certificates for the half term. Early Birds were Miss Butterworth’s, Mrs Roberts’ and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Prizes for 100% attendance went to Sahirya and Raihaan. Congratulations!
