Traffic delays at Yorkshire Street and Elliot Street Junction
Date published: 02 June 2010
Drivers are being advised to avoid Yorkshire Street close to the junction with Elliot Street, Rochdale as a hole in the road has appeared and is causing serious delays.
The carriageway on Yorkshire Street has been reduced to one lane and Elliot Street junction with Yorkshire Street is closed.
Temporary traffic lights are in place but are causing delays in both directions. Motorists are advised to avoid the area especially at peak times.
Impact Partnership, who manage the highways on behalf of the council, have been investigating the cavity which has recently appeared on Yorkshire Street.
Impact’s highway maintenance team leader, Peter O’Gorman said: “The problem occurred due to localised settlement underneath the road. Engineers acted swiftly installing barriers and temporary 2-way traffic signals. T
"The road will be reinstated in the next day or so, Yorkshire Street and Elliot Street will be fully open to traffic again over the weekend.”
