Rochdale and Littleborough Peace Group join protesters in Manchester
Rochdale and Littleborough Peace Group last night (Tuesday 1 June) joined crowds in Manchester to protest against the Israeli attack on a ship carrying aid to Gaza.
They gathered outside the BBC on Oxford Road and held a minute’s silence for those killed in the incident. The protesters applauded as names of British citizens seized by Israeli troops were read out.
Philip Gilligan, of the Peace Group said: “We need Rochdale’s newly elected MPs to reassure us that they have written to the Foreign Secretary insisting that he put pressure on Israel to end the illegal blockade of Gaza. We need them to ask the Foreign Secretary to immediately withdraw the British Ambassador from Tel Aviv.”
He added: “We hope that many people from Rochdale will join the national demonstration called by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign for Saturday 5 June 2010.”
