The council and police aim to clean up the estate
The police and council have called the crime and grime blitz in Middleton a “great success”.
Various schemes were carried out on the Hollin estate with the aim of catching criminals, reducing crime and cleaning up the surrounding area. They want it be a safer and more enjoyable place.
Between 17 May and 23 May anti-social behaviour was down by 40% compared to the previous week as there was more police presence on the streets.
Six skips were cleared by offenders wearing high-visibility orange jackets as part of a ‘Community Payback’ scheme. Lots of graffiti was also cleared from the estate and littering, fly-tipping and dog-fouling was discouraged.
Local residents were given handbag alarms and purse bells to help protect themselves against crime, and properties were inspected to ensure they were secure and adhered to fire safety rules.
Off licences on the estate were found to be breaching the law and were warned of their conduct, whilst local vehicles, including taxes were checked to make sure they had the correct documentation.
