Hollingworth Park rangers aiming for top award
Hollingworth Lake is in the running for the Warburtons National Picnic Site of the year after beating off local competition to win the Northwest award.
The park in Littleborough is one of ten locations aiming to win the prestigious title and a prize of £1000.
Chief Ranger, Eleanor Sherwin, has called the contest “hampers at dawn”, and she wants more than just the regional crown.
“We want to go all the way – we are delighted with the regional title but are urging the people of Rochdale to get behind one of its most treasured green spaces and help put Hollingworth Lake on the map.
She added: “We want to attract more visitors to enjoy a day at the park and the region over the summer months.”
The winner will be announced in the week commencing Monday 18 June.
