Redwood Secondary School

Date published: 27 May 2010

We are delighted to announce that the school has been successful in securing funding to one of our most exciting developments is to achieve the Specialist Sports College Status in the next two years. This would enable the school to access areas of resources and further develop opportunities for our young people in all aspects of sports and leisure for all ability levels. Our eventual aim is to have a new gym fully equipped to support the generic needs of all our young people and also for it to become a resource for local schools and the community.

Clearly we are trying to raise funds to achieve this in a variety of ways. We will be organizing a couple of whole school events after the half term for our young people, staff, governors and parents to support in our bid.

Activity Information Day Could I take this opportunity to highlight the event taking place this Saturday at Wood land Community School in Heywood for families and carers of young disabled people between 12 – 3.30pm. It is an opportunity to find out more details of activities which your son / daughter could become involved in.

Play4U Details of the summer activities based at Redwood should be available in the next few weeks following discussions I am having with the organizers of the programme.

`Tag ` Rugby Well done to the 17 youngsters who represented Redwood in the tag rugby competition yesterday in Blackburn. Over 48 teams took part and our team managed a very respectable semi final play off place scoring over 20 tries in the process!

Key stage 4 visited Beatlab in Middleton to record another song along with a project involving music beats using a keyboard. 4U had a colourful science lesson, turning white flowers into coloured flowers using food dye. Flowers seem to be the word of the term and it seems everybody is going plant potty over sunflowers. 4U and 4L could be raising the roof with the flower everybody is growing.

Just a reminder Redwood closed for half term on Friday 28 May and reopens on Monday 7 June.
