Deeplish Primary School
Budding rugby players got a chance for some extra coaching on Monday morning when representatives from Rochdale Hornets and Milnrow Cobras came in to school. Classes throughout the school will be benefiting from this extra P.E. session over the next few weeks. Thank you to Miss Butterworth for organising it.
The Peacemaker Group are back in school for a couple of weeks working with children on the theme of “Tell It Like It Is.” Bullying and racism are the topics discussed.
Zainab and Danyal, accompanied by Mrs Davis, went to a School Council Event at Bowlee Park Primary School on Tuesday where they met representatives from other schools’ councils. The aim of the meeting was to make the criteria for school council awards more child friendly. Well done Zainab and Danyal, you were the youngest there and you made a great contribution.
A few weeks ago school were involved in a football coaching week by Rochdale Football Club culminating in a Penalty Shoot-Out Day for which some of the children were sponsored by their families.
On Tuesday a representative from the football club came in to the whole school assembly to present some prizes to children who had raised over £10 in sponsor money. The total money raised was over £400 which will be split between the football club and school. Thank you to everyone who took part and families for being so generous.
Mrs Ball, Headteacher of the new Kingsway Park High School came in to school to talk to our year 5 children about life at high schools. It won’t be long before our year 5’s and their families have to make the choice of which high school they would like to attend so thank you, Mrs Ball, for the information you gave to them.
The Deeplish Parent Partnership group met again this week to further plan the “Curriculum Evening” which is to be held on Tuesday June 8th between 4 pm and 6pm. Please put this date in your diaries as it promises to be a fun and informative event. Parents will get the chance to experience how the curriculum is taught to their children so that they can get a wider understanding of what is going on in school. Refreshments will be sold and there will also be a used book sale. The school council will be helping out here and has made posters advertising this event.
Miss Bates took 4 Year 5 children to the latest Community Cohesion meeting this time held at St Mary’s CE Primary School. Children were given a tour of the school, completing a quiz sheet as they went round, and discussed what it is that people value.
The sailing tuition finished this week for the first set of children to attempt this at Deeplish School. They have had an excellent time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. However children in our three oldest year groups will get a chance to experience a little of what it is like to sail when they take part in some one-off sessions designed to give them a flavour of “life on the waves!”
School took part in a World Record Attempt through the “Walk To Live” charity on Friday afternoon which will benefit the “Jakarna Wildlife Trust” in Africa. The idea was to get as many children walking as possible at the same time and be sponsored for it. Deeplish managed to get over 300 children, each walking the best part of a mile around the school. Thank you staff and children! It was such a hot day but you managed it.
Class attendance awards this week went to Miss Butterworth’s and Mrs Roberts’ classes. Early birds were Mrs Taylor’s, Miss Butterworth’s and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes. Well done Miss Butterworth’s class for “doing the double!” Farihah and Zahid won the weekly 100% attendance prize draw.
