St Gabriel's CE Primary School rated 'good' by Ofsted

St Gabriel’s CE Primary, Middleton, has been judged as a ‘Good’ school  by Ofsted.

The report outlined that the school is a place where pupils thrive and that the care of pupils is at the heart of the school’s character.

The inspectors visited thirteen lessons and found that attainment has risen over the past two years with current pupils’ work demonstrating continuing improvement. Although reading skills are above average, writing is less assured, especially for boys, but the school has an accurate understanding of its strengths as well as areas to improve. 

St Gabriel’s has Healthy Schools Status and an Eco School Award and inspectors found that they are very keen to recycle waste and many pupils enjoy their involvement on the ‘Eco committee’. They make good contributions to the school and local community and are further developing their contributions to the wider community.

The findings echo comments from parents of children across the school with many pupils saying how much they enjoy lessons and like coming to school.

Headteacher Janet Abbott said: “I am very proud and pleased with the inspection report and I feel that it recognises the good work along with the outstanding care and support that is provided at St. Gabriel’s.

“The inspectors have witnessed the positive relationships and pupils’ good attitudes to learning and during the inspection they were very impressed with the good pupil behaviour.” 

“The report is extremely encouraging reflecting the hard work of all stakeholders in raising standards and attainment and I am confident that the school will continue to go from strength to strength.”
