Three children hospitalised after collision

UPDATE
Not all casualties from this incident have been released from hospital as previously reported - two children and their mother remain in hospital for treatment.

 

Shortly after 3.45pm on Tuesday 18 May 2010, police attended a collision between a red Nissan Primera and pedestrians on Ashfield Road

Officers from the road policing unit attended the scene and found two boys, aged two and seven-years-old and a girl aged eight-years-old with injuries.

The mother of two of the children also suffered minor injuries.

All were taken to hospital as a precaution, and the seven-year-old boy has been discharged.

The two-year-old boy, eight-year-old girl and their mother remain in hospital for treatment.

The girl has a fractured toe, broken nose and facial injuries. The boy has cuts and bruising and remains in hospital for observation.

Their mother is being treated in hospital for hip and shoulder injuries.

Police had previously requested the vehicle to stop but it failed to do so.

The car was stopped shortly after the collision and a 23-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and taking a vehicle without consent.

The pair have been bailed until 28 July 2010 pending further police inquiries.

The police officer driving has been suspended from driving duties in line with procedure.

Officers from the Road Policing Unit and Rochdale division are carrying out inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
