Serious disturbance on the Kirkholt estate

A serious disturbance on the Kirkholt estate yesterday - members of the travelling community fighting with residents - caused Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) to advise staff to withdraw from the estate until police had brought the fighting under control.
A spokeswoman for RBH said: "The police alerted us that they were dealing with an incident on the estate yesterday.
"RBH advised staff working around the affected area that, as a precaution, they should work from the office or postpone visits until the incident was over.
"The police operation was concluded in the afternoon and we returned to our normal pattern of working."
