The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has been named as one of the CHKS 40 Top Hospitals in 2010.
The CHKS Top Hospitals Programme is now in its tenth year and is the only data-driven set of awards in the UK using analysis of nationally available data to determine winners in each category.
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony in London hosted by CHKS, the UK’s leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services.
CHKS celebrates excellence amongst its clients across the UK with the 40Top Awards. These are based on the evaluation of 21 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.
John Jesky, Chairman of the Trust, praised staff across the Trust who have worked hard to retain this nationally recognised award.
He said: “I’m delighted that the Trust has again been included in this year’s CHKS Top 40 Hospitals’ group. It is to the credit of our professional and hard working staff across all our hospitals that we remain committed to providing high quality patient care. The award is a tribute and reflection on all the staff at Pennine Acute Trust who work hard to achieve these high standards. On behalf of the Trust Board, I would like to thank them for their efforts.
“Whilst the awards are a useful benchmark for us to continue to improve, the performance data is only as good as the patient experience. We are therefore committed to ensuring our services are safe, reliable, are patient focused and meet the high standards that our patients expect day in day out.”
James Coles, director of research at CHKS, said: “We are delighted that Pennine Acute Trust is one of our 40Top Hospitals for 2010. These awards recognise outstanding performance in 21 areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care.”
The Pennine Acute Trust employs around 10,000 staff and runs Fairfield General Hospital n Bury, North Manchester General Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Infirmary and services at Birch Hill. Last year the Trust spent over half a billion pounds (£526,302,000) on providing healthcare service; it saw 306,602 A&E cases, 739,022 outpatients, 82,220 day cases and 128,675 inpatients.
