Do you like the idea of being more involved in your child’s learning?
Here’s a way of doing just that if your child is in Reception class or Class 1 only.
For 5 Mondays after half term ( 7, 14, 21 & 28 June and 5 July) you are invited to attend an Early Reading Course here at school. They are all 1 till 3pm. The first part of the session will be with the tutor who will explain different ways of supporting your child with reading and the second part of the session will be spent sitting and working with your children and the tutor altogether.
There is a taster introductory session on Friday afternoon 21 May ( Next Friday) just to get you all started and involved. I understand that you will be making puppets to go with the story of ‘The very hungry Caterpillar’. All the sessions are from 1 till 3pm ( 2 hours) and at the end you take your child home with you as usual. ( . . .and the puppet ! )
Why not hand the form into school and give it a try? The course has been very successful in the past and feedback has been very positive.
And it gets even better ! For those with children in Reception class on the same 5 Mondays as given above, there will be a healthy tasty food cookery morning for parents and their children in the Foundation building at school. You will learn have hands-on experience of cooking up some really tasty dishes with lots of ideas for simple but tasty menus and dishes. These session run from 9am till 11am.
You are welcome to book on both sessions, ( Early Reading and Cooking), just one option or none at all if you like but I do encourage you to take part in at least one option for the 5 Mondays.
Finally this is not just for Mums but Dads as well !
Our annual Sports Awards ceremony is on Friday 18 June. This year we are renaming it the Sports and Citizenship awards and we will also be presenting the Rochdale Childer Award. All parents, Grandparents and Carers are very welcome to join us in the hall on that afternoon for 1.45pm. Don’t miss out as it will be a great afternoon!
The children in KS2 classes 3 to 6 learned about First Aid skills from Red Cross personnel last Monday 17 May. It was a very successful and useful event and another day of teaching essential life skills to children.
Year 5 will be going to St Cuthbert’s RC College on Thursday 27 May in the morning for a transition event focussing on Dance and Drama.
After half term week beginning 7 June, Class 6 will be having their special focus week of Excellence and Enjoyment. Five students from Manchester University will plan a week of interesting and absorbing lessons which will be a welcome change from all the hard work that has had to go into SATs preparations.
The ‘co-co’ club continues to go from strength to strength. Children from Broadfield CP school are currently joining us on Tuesday afternoon for a combined after school club of fun and games. The joint celebration festival will now be held on the afternoon of Tuesday 8 June with Deeplish School, Ashfield Valley School and Broadfield school all taking part in our first joint celebration event.
Family Holidays
Thank you for only taking family holidays during school holiday time. No family holidays will be authorised during term time. If your child is off school at any time due to illness then please contact the school office first thing to let us know. Many thanks again.
Expochef
Last Friday the children in Years 1 to 6 were treated to a healthy tasty cooking spectacular. It was provided by Expochef ‘Pete’. The chef explained and demonstrated healthy yet tasty ways of cooking such as use of spices instead of salt and fruits instead of sugar. It was an inspirational day and the whole school learned a lot in an essential life skill. We will be arranging another visit for next term.
