This week’s theme was Our Lady. Our Enterprise capability was Initiative.

Welcome back to our Year 7 Boys Football team, staff and supporters who spent Sunday and Monday at Stamford Bridge in London to play in the England Schools Under 12s FA Cup Final. The team have done so well – no other Rochdale school has ever reached the final – but unfortunately, on the day, the odds were against us. The final score was 1 – 0 to Whitgift. Well done to everyone involved in getting the team this far – we are so proud of you all!

More than seventy staff and students went on a theatre trip to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at The Palace Theatre Manchester on Friday. The visit was organised as a reward for all students who had participated in the school show or choirs etc. A good time was had by all. Preparations for the summer concert are in full swing. The evening will be a mix of drama dance and music and will take place at the end of the summer term.

The Library is running a new competition “Can You Tell a Book By Its Cover”. All you have to do is identify the title and author from 20 book covers – it’s that easy! Entry forms are available from Mrs Russell in the LRC - closing date Friday 11 June.

Homework club is open at 1.30 each lunchtime in L3 with Mrs Whitmore and Mrs Rushton and Year 7 learners can now enjoy St Cuthbert's daily radio broadcast each lunchtime in the year 7 area. A reminder that late detentions and smart card detentions are now served after school, this is in line with whole school procedures.

Our Adult Learning Group is proving to be extremely popular – a group of parents and friends of the school come together each Monday morning to improve their computing skills. The facilities in our Partnership Learning Centre are available for all parents and local businesses who wish to produce resources or develop their own learning. Please speak to Louise Moore for details (01706 647761).

Football The year 7 boys football team played in the English Schools Football Association Under 12's final at Stamford Bridge against Whitgift School from Croyden. The final was the culmination of a seasons hard work from the boys and their manager Damian McLachlan who had beaten off stiff competition from all over the country to reach the final. The boys gave a great account of themselves against a strong, athletic Whitgift side but eventually were beaten 1-0. Man of the match was St Cuthbert's Ross Mallinson. Although very disappointed at the time, the boys will look back on this achievement in years to come with great affection and pride. The staff and students of St Cuthbert's were exceptionally proud of the boys and had a day out at Stamford Bridge to remember forever. We would also like to thank the students from our school and local primary schools who came to London to support the boys - their behaviour and support was outstanding and gave the boys a great boost when stepping out onto the pitch.
