Deeplish Primary School
Congratulations Years 2 to Year 6 for your efforts in your formal assessment tests during the week commencing 10th May. And to the children in the other year groups who coped very well and gave their best, as usual, during the optional tests. Thank you to all members of staff who made the week fun as well as testing. Deeplish teamwork at its best. Not only did Year 5 children do their tests, they also took on the roles of HALs and JAMs to give the Year 6’s a rest for the week. What an excellent job you did! Deeplish School is looking forward to next year when you will be doing those roles for real.
Mrs Isherwood’s class delivered an excellent assembly about a Viking journey on Thursday. You must have worked really hard.
The School Council had a lovely day out on Friday when they were invited to visit the Lord Mayor’s Chambers in Manchester Town Hall. Ms Firth, Lord Mayor of Manchester, who used to teach at Deeplish School, invited the School Council to visit her in her chambers before her term of office finished. They were treated to a look behind the scenes in the chambers, got to sign the visitor’s book, tried on her ceremonial robes and ate some very special mayoral chocolate biscuits! The School Council accompanied by Headteacher, Ms Burrow and Mrs Davis had a very full day; the trip took in the interactive section of Manchester Art Gallery, lunched in the Peace Gardens, visited Chinatown and Manchester Cathedral and played in the fountains in Piccadilly Gardens. It was a brilliant day, thank you School Council; you are a joy to be with. The minibus was very quiet on the journey back to school with 12 tired, but happy, people.
Attendance at school this week was brilliant. Winners of the award in Key Stage 1 were Miss Butterworth’s class. There was a three way tie for the award in Key Stage 2 with Mrs Clayton/ Mr Dysch’s class, Mrs Isherwood’s and Mrs Campbell-Starling’s classes achieving 100% attendance. Well done all of you! Mrs Campbell-Starlings class went on to win the Early Bird Award when every child arrived at school on time! The award for Key Stage 1 went to Mrs Afzal’s class. Thank you everyone for making the effort to come to school and also to arrive on time.
