Creative writing with Nicholas Royle

Famous author, Nicholas Royle came to Touchstones to help writers explore techniques.
Mr Royle has written many novels such as The Director’s Cut and Antwerp. He regularly writes for the Time Out and the Independent and has edited thriteen original anthologies. Since 2006, Mr Royle has been teaching creative writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Speaking at the event, participants said: “I enjoy the inspiration and the confidence the creative writing group gives me."
“Beginning a story is always difficult for me, so to have an exercise set within a time limit is good encouragement to ‘get going’ for me,” said one member.
Another said “Please can we have more events like this”.
“I thoroughly enjoyed and valued the workshop. It taught me to think outside the box”, said another. It’s a pleasure being with like-minded people” declared one writer.
Lesley Farris, Cultural Inclusion Officer and workshop organiser said: “Over the last year, through this creative writing project, we have explored the techniques and styles professional writer’s use to bring words to life. These words leave us with memorable impressions.
"The participants have, and will continue to join in, some amusing and vibrant workshops, whilst drawing inspiration the arts & heritage collection.
"It’s all free, so if you are interested in joining all you have to do is bring yourself and everything else will be provided.”
