Greater Manchester Run to cause some road closures in the city

The BUPA Great Manchester Run 2010 which takes place on Sunday 16 May will cause some disruption to Manchester’s roads.
The run starts at 9.55am from Portland Street near to its junction with Oxford Street in the City Centre.
The route goes out of the city into Trafford and Salford before returning into Manchester city centre to finish on Deansgate near to the Hilton Hotel.
The main road closures will be in operation from 8am.
Greater Manchester Police wants to ensure that the event is a positive and safe experience for runners and spectators whilst causing minimal inconvenience to residents, businesses and motorists.
GMP have advised that people should consider the following:
1. To view the event or to visit adjacent areas, plan ahead and allow yourself plenty of journey time.
2. If you are not intending to view the run, consider a route in and out of the city to avoid the event or altering your journey time.
3. If you intend to use buses that travel on the route of the run, please check with the bus operator or bus advice lines for any service route amendments.
GMP will start to remove restrictions on the route as soon as the runners have cleared. This is expected to commence around 12.45pm and all roads other than Tonman Street and Deansgate between Quay Street and John Dalton Street will be re-opened by 4.30pm.
The following roads will be affected:
Tonman Street between Deansgate and Barton Street will be closed from 09:00 on Saturday 15 May.
There will be no access from Deansgate along Tonman Street or on to Longworth Street. Access
The following roads will be closed from 04:00 on Sunday 16 May:
To build the start area, Portland Street between Oxford Street and Princess Street; and to build the finish area Deansgate between Whitworth Street West and Peter Street.
The following roads will be closed from 08:00 to allow for the course to be set up ready for the Run. This will include Princess Street between Albert Square and Portland Street; Portland Street from Princess Street to York Street; Chepstow Street; Great Bridgewater Street; Bridgewater Viaduct; Chester Road between Bridgewater Viaduct and Cornbrook; Cross Street; Silver Street; Sackville Street; Chorlton Street; Quay Street; Bridgewater Way; Chester Road between White City Circle and Sir Matt Busby Way; Sir Matt Busby Way; Wharfside Way; Warren Bruce Road; Trafford Wharf Road between Warren Bruce Road and Trafford Road; Waterside; Water’s Reach; Trafford Wharf Road from White City Circle to Colgate Lane; Elevator Road; Victoria Place; Wharf End; Peter Street; Southmill Street; Bootle Street; Jackson’s Row; Lloyd Street; Central Street; Byrom Street between Quay Street and Hardman Street; Hardman Street; Atkinson Street; Deansgate between Peter Street and John Dalton Street; Oxford Street between Peter Street and Whitworth Street West; Abingdon Street; Minshull Street from Portland Street to Aytoun; Bloom Street from Chorlton Street to Princess Street and Major Street from Sackville Street to Princess Street.
The following roads will be closed from 09:30 to link up the start of the course with Bridgewater Viaduct: Whitworth Street West from Albion Street to Gloucester Street; Albion Street; Medlock Street; City Road East and Great Jackson Street.
