We are delighted to report that the school has been successful in securing funding to arrange Youth Clubs for our young people during the evenings and at the weekend. This great opportunity will start in September and more details will be sent out to parents / carers during this term.

Key Stage 3 Residential - A group of pupils and staff from key stage 3 spent the week at Moorland Home. They participated in a number of activities during the week including visits to Old Trafford and a day in Blackpool.

Post 16 Work Experience -Good luck to all our students from Post 16 who are taking part in their two week work experience placements.

Cross Country successes - Congratulations to all those students who represented the school in the cross country -championships. There were some great performances and top quality results!

Key stages 3 & 4 took part in ‘Wear what you want Day’ to raise funds for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity. The charity builds on the success of the New Children’s Hospital Appeal, which came to a close at the end of last year, having reached its target. The money raised will go to making a difficult time a little easier for patients and their families. We raised £80 -Thank you for your support.

Key Stage 4 News - year 10 students went to Beatlab in Middleton and recorded their own song.Maria, Zanib, Martyn S, Fatima and Nathan S recorded their own version of Cheryl Cole’s Parachute. The Geordie songstress should watch out as Redwood seem to have some very talented singers, rappers and announcers.

Mr. Barnes’ class laid on a breakfast last Friday. Croissants, cheese, jam and fruit were all available in this fine feast.

6th form news -New sport option- After a visit to a bowling club during citizenship, we found some talented Crown Green Bowlers it will now be added as an option for the summer term, so Qasim, Andy C, Lee, Louis and Geoff have been going for a nice afternoon at Thistleyfield Bowling Club, and getting quite good!

Horticulture -The horticulture group has received some equipment from Morrison’s. Thanks to all the parents who sent in the Let’s Grow vouchers. 6th form received nearly 2000 vouchers and was able to order some self watering propagators, Plant food, Netting and some cold wooden frames for planting. After half term they will have hanging baskets for sale but will also be doing a replanting service, so if you have any old hanging baskets that need the kiss of life send them in and for a small charge they will refill them and make them look beautiful again.

GCSE Art - Steven W and Amy M have just finished their GCSE art exam. Well done to you both for working hard and producing some fabulous pieces of work.

All work for 3rd years will be going in for accreditation next week. Well done for all the hard work you have done over the past 3 years.

Kitchen Opening - Over the Easter Holidays the 6th form flat Kitchen had a Face Lift. We are organising a grand opening on Friday 28th May. We are looking for any food related decorations anyone may have like posters banners etc and if anyone would like to help by doing some cooking demonstrations or workshops it would be much appreciated.
