Heywood & Middleton Local Elections - Live Commentary

The local election count, May 2008
14:34pm: The final two results are in. In Middleton South, Conservative, Michael Holly, has won with 2013 votes. In West Heywood, Labour have won with 2232 votes.
14:15pm: We are now only waiting on two results.
14:00pm: Peter Davison, of the Lib Dems. has won the Castleton vote with 1336
13:59pm: Ian Duckworth, of the Conservatives, has won Bamford, with 2269 votes.
13:55pm: Hopwood Hall, is now in Labour control after they won with 2301 votes.
13:51pm: In West Heywood, Labour has won with 2203 votes.
13:49pm: In East Middleton, Labours June West has been elected with 2180 votes
13:34pm: In North Middleton, Labour have won with 2037 votes.
13:33pm: In Norden, Lib Dems have won with 2240 votes.
13:32pm: Peter Rush, Lib Dem, is elceted councillor for North Heywood.
13:10pm: It is looking as though Peter Davison of the Liberal Democrats has won in Castleton.
12:56pm: At the moment, in Norden, Bamford and North Middleton, Conservative are just ahead. Labour are ahead in West Heywood, Middleton East, Middleton West, North Middleton. And finally the Liberal Democrats are ahead in North Heywood.
12:30pm: Colin Lambert of the Labour party, predicts he'll keep all his seats in Rochdale, and hopes to steal 3 seats away from the Lib Dem, However he wanted to gain Heywood North, but feels he has not done so.
12:28pm: Lib Dem, Simon Steward, feels all is going well
12:20pm: Pat Sullivan, Conservative candidate, of Norden, feels she is doing very well.
1219pm: Ian Duckworth, Conservative candidate, of Bamford, is feeling very positive.
Before yesterday's election, Rochdale Borough Council was under Liberal Democrat control. The make-up of the council was as follows:
Liberal Democrat – 31
Labour - 18
Conservative - 8
Independent – 2
Vacant seats – 1 (Lib Dem Councillor Elwyn Watkins resigned in April 2010)
A total of 21 seats on the council are available at this election. This is one seat
per ward, with the exception of Healey – where two seats are available following the
resignation of Cllr Elwyn Watkins in April. His seat wasn’t due for re-election until 2011.

Liberal Democrat - 12
Labour - 5
Conservative - 2
Independent - 1 (not contesting)
Vacant - 1
