The World Cup is fast approaching and world cup fever is hitting school. Each class is busy working on displays with facts and information about their chosen team. Watch this space for more information as the tournament commences in June.
The next meeting of the ASD parent focus group will be held on 13 May at 9.30 a.m. Vicky McManus from Connexions will be in attendance to advise on further educational college provision, hopefully arranging for parents to visit the colleges.
Healthy School Awards – the recent assessment has given very positive feedback I am sure that we will be announcing our Bronze award very soon.
4L competed in the 2010 Consumer challenge. Joshua , Joe , Matt and Martyn with Maria as reserve came a creditable 4th. The rest of the class supported the quizzers and were rewarded when Fatima was asked two name two members of JLS. They just happen to be her favorite band.
Work Experience went very well indeed. Lee was placed at Bowlee Park Sports Centre, the manager said he was a pleasure to work with. Ryan’s work rate was very good at Springfield Park where he enjoyed working. John worked at Queens Park where he his attendance and punctuality were very good.
4U spent last Tuesday on a litter picking exercise clearing the field and the street. 4E and R were visited by two white kittens, the cats hadn’t been named but that didn’t stop them being really cute. They were also visited by Mrs. White’s sister who came in to an RE lesson to talk about Christianity.
Matt C nearly cleared the sand pit in P.E. His jump of over 3 meters was possibly the longest in the Schools history.
The students of 5E, who will be leaving Redwood in July had a morning of practice interviews. Jay from Business Link North West, Katie from Connexions and Andrew who is an independent IT consultant kindly came in and interviewed all of the group to give them more experience in preparation for moving on. The students spent some time preparing and working with staff as well as each other, they dressed as though they were going for a real interview and had to check the timetable and go to the correct room at the right time for each interview. At the end of the morning the visitors gave feedback to the group and the commented on how well the students presented themselves, how confident they were and how well they answered the questions. We are very proud of them and we think they will do very well in work experience interviews next week and other interviews in the future.
Students have this week been involved in ‘election’ fever. They have been taking a keen interest in the General Election and have been looking into issues concerning democracy, voting and political parties. Students decided to hold their own school mock election and found candidates to represent the 5 main political parties. Voting took place on Thursday morning after some last minute canvassing. The whole school like the rest of the country are waiting for votes to be counted and are eager to find out which Party has won the ‘Redwood election’. Jill Welsby (Rochdale Childrens Empowerment Officer) visited the school on Wednesday and was most impressed with the students desire to get involved with political issues and their eagerness to involve themselves as active citizens in the school election.
