Ellenroad Engine House was the venue for a superb display of vintage motorcycles courtesy of the Vintage Motorcycle Society.

Familiar names such as Royal Enfield, Matchless, BSA, Vincent, Triumph, including a military specification motorcycle, were present along with less well known marques such as Francis Barneth, Douglas and Morini, an Italian marque.

Royal Enfield owner Derek Allen, who has recently joined the Pennine Section of the Vintage Motorcycle Club (VMCC), said: "I've ridden here from Greenfield. My Royal Enfield needed work when I bought it and I'm still working on it."

In contrast, Morini owner Graham Hampson has been a VMCC member for over 20 years and bought his motorcycle five years ago and has now fully restored it."

Talking to Rochdale Online, Mr Hampson joked about the amount of time and money vintage owners spend on their motorcycles, saying: "Its lots of silly old men wasting a lot of money." He added: "But enjoying what we do."
