Water masterpiece!

Year 5 pupils at Smithy Bridge Primary have produced a mural depicting Hollingworth Lake which they are donating to the Country Park.

The piece, a series of panels each showing a different feature of the lake, is approximately 3 metres by 1.5 metres and will be presented to Eleanor Sherwin, Hollingworth Lake Park Ranger, during unveiling on 27 April at which the Mayor will be in attendance. The design is based on the style of David Light an artist based in Pembrokeshire. His paintings represent the many natural aspects encountered on a single journey or walk.

To celebrate its arrival, two classes from the school who were involved in the design and painting are spending a day at Hollingworth Lake.

Kevin Taylor from Smithy Bridge Primary School said: “Educational visits are an excellent way to give children a real hands-on learning experience and Hollingworth Lake Country Park makes an ideal place for pupils to explore and learn about nature and their local environment. From pond dipping to map making, the school takes part in a wide range of activities and while not everyone will chose to produce a mural like Smithy Bridge’s, the range and quality of the follow-up work inspired by these visits is too good not to share with others. The mural will form part of an exhibition at the Visitor Centre and we are really excited to be a part of it.”
