Cannabis farm discovered

More than 100 cannabis plants were discovered during a raid in Rochdale.

Acting on intelligence from members of the public, officers from the Rochdale South Neighbourhood Policing Team raided a house on Ruskin Road in Kirkholt at about 10.50am on 22 April 2010.

A cannabis farm of more than 100 plants was found, along with evidence of electrical tampering.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis and remain in police custody for questioning.

Sergeant Craig Adams from the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "This is another fantastic example of the police and the community working in partnership to stop drugs getting onto our streets.

"We have had a number of successes in detecting cannabis farms in Rochdale and this latest operation reinforces the clear message that we will act decisively to deal with the manufacture of illegal drugs.

"A major element of this success has been the level of support and information we have received from local people about crime in their neighbourhoods and we want to thank them for that and urge them to continue to provide us with information anonymously via the GMP drugs hotline on 0161 856 1417 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"I would also urge people to continue to be vigilant and if they spot unusual activity at neighbouring properties to contact us. Tell-tale signs can often include lots of different people coming and going at unusual times and all of the windows in a property being covered day and night."
