Middleton man ordered to pay £150 for littering
Date published: 23 April 2010
A Middleton man has been found guilty of littering and has been ordered by Rochdale Magistrates Court to pay a total of £150.
Michael Walsh, 43, of Burnside Crescent, Middleton, pleaded guilty on 20 April 2010 to a charge of dumping rubbish on 6 November 2009 on Martindale Crescent, Langley. This was contrary to section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
The Magistrates convicted Mr Walsh and ordered that he pay a fine of £75, council costs of £60 and victim surcharge of £15. The magistrates remarked the case costs had risen due to his failure to pay the fixed penalty notice.
Had the matter been settled by way of paying a Fixed Penalty Notice, the cost could have been as low as £50.
