Raising money for Marie Curie with the 2010 Swimathon
Date published: 18 April 2010
Dozens of swimmers took to the water at the Gaskell Pool, Heywood for the 2010 Swimathon.
Swimathon is the world’s biggest fundraising swim. In its 24th year over half a million swimmers have taken part during its history raising over £32 million for charity. This year Swimathon aims to raise over £1.5million for Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Swimathon Foundation.
Emma Conway, Duty Manager at the Gaskell Pool, said: "This is our third year taking part in the Swimathon and we wanted a good turn out because it is the last year we will use the Gaskell Pool, as by next year the new sports and leisure centre under construction will be built. I am delighted to say the turn out is excellent, the most we have had in the three years.
"Most of the swimmers are local and regular attendees of the pool but we are also pleased to welcome a disability team from Smallbridge."
Between them the swimmers will raise well over £1000 for charity.
