The Rotary Club of Rochdale teamed up with the Stroke Association today (Saturday 17 April) for its annual Stroke Awareness Day.
Shoppers in the Wheatsheaf Centre were provided with information about stroke prevention and were also offered blood pressure checking and advice.
The awareness day, now in its fourth year aims to inform the public about the effects high blood pressure can have and how it is the biggest risk factor in having a stroke.
The message is that early detection of high blood pressure is vital in preventing a stroke.
Rotarian, and Rochdale Online director, John Kay was pleased with the progress the partnership made, he said: “Each year we learn of people whjo have had their blood pressure tested and have been referred to the doctors.
“One year someone said thanks to you – you may have saved my life. Even if we only help one person today that is great.”
Shoppers queued to have their blood pressure checked, Alison Blood from the blood pressure team said: “We are here to offer advice and provide general awareness to the public about maintaining a good blood pressure.”
Rochdale Online reporter Laura Wild had her blood pressure tested - it was fine!
