‘Love Yourself’ was the message given to shoppers in the Exchange Shopping Centre today (Saturday 17 April 2010) as they were provided with free health and information advice.
The event is said to be ‘back by popular demand’ and was organised by the shopping centre in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Rochdale East.
Health Trainer Mike Fishwick said: “Our aim is to raise awareness of blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes.
“It has been a very successful event and extremely busy. We will be doing the event again next year hopefully.”
Rotarian Ken Davies MBE, said: “It was busy here yesterday and it is equally as busy today, it is a very worth while event.
“We are here to look after people and point them in the right direction and we are delighted that it is so busy.”
Margaret Cigna, Promotions Co-ordinator of the Rochdale Exchange said the day was a great way of getting those people who put of going to the doctor or don’t have time to be tested there and then.
The Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift and the Mayoress, Susan Etchells also attended the ‘Love Yourself’ function.
Mayor Swift said: “It is so good to see the people of Rochdale coming together to support an event which promotes the health of the borough.
“Thank you to the Rochdale Shopping Exchanged for providing the day and the Rotary Club of Rochdale East for volunteering and the NHS health trainers for taking the time and trouble to high light the facilities available to the people of the borough and to promote good health.”
The Mayor also had a very important message, he said: “As you will know I have recently undergone treatment for prostate cancer, because I was regularly checked and diagnosed in the early stations it has been treatable.
“I encourage all men aged over 50 to get the PSA blood test so that they to can benefit from the available health services.”
