Man attacked in Littleborough centre
Date published: 14 April 2010
A Littleborough man is struggling to put his life back together after he was the victim of an unprovoked attack in the town centre.
Since the attack, on Friday 12 February 2010, the 42-year-old victim has developed pneumonia and has been unable to work.
Now officers want the public's help in tracking down the thugs who attacked the man for no apparent reason.
At about 11pm on 12 February, the victim was walking along Church Street when he was approached by two men.
Without warning they pushed him to the floor and one sat on his back punching his head while the other kicked him.
The victim has been unable to provide a description of the offenders because they rushed him so quickly.
He suffered extensive injuries including a fractured rib and detached retina and was taken to Rochdale Infirmary for treatment. He then developed pneumonia, for which he was admitted to the critical care unit for a number of days.
The victim has not yet made a full recovery and is unable to work at the present time.
Detective Constable Rich Shelton, of Rochdale CID, said: "This incident has had a devastating effect on the victim's partner and family.
"It demonstrates perfectly the terrible consequences of unpredictable violence on an innocent man.
"However, I want to reassure the victim, his family and the wider community, that the police are doing everything they can to get to the bottom of this attack.
"He was attacked in the town centre at a time when pubs are emptying so I am sure there would have been people who saw something."
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 8581 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
