High Level Road, Rochdale to be closed for two weeks
Date published: 14 April 2010
Advance work on the new Metrolink line to Rochdale will mean that High Level Road, Rochdale will be closed to traffic from 19 April 2010 for two weeks.
Parking on High Level Road will also be suspended during this period.
A local diversion route will be clearly signposted via Maclure Road, Drake Street, Milnrow Road and Oldham Road.
The work involves the diversion of utilities to prepare for the building of the new line, as well as the new Metrolink stop at Rochdale Railway Station on Maclure Road.
The new line will open as far as Central Park in spring 2011, Oldham Mumps in autumn 2011 and Rochdale Railway Station in spring 2012.
The new line is part of the £600 million Metrolink 3A expansion currently being overseen by GMPTE. As well as the Oldham and Rochdale line, construction is also underway to build three additional lines to MediaCityUK, Chorlton in South Manchester, and Droylsden.
Further expansion to East Didsbury and Ashton-under-Lyne has also now been approved.
