Middleton will celebrate the opening of brand new state of the art sports facilities at 6pm on 3 March when the Mayor and Mayoress officially open Furrow Sports Centre.

The new sports centre, attached to Furrow Primary School, boasts fours multi-purpose sports courts that can be used for sports such as trampolining, basketball, football as well as arts and craft sessions, circuit training and boxer circuit, which has sessions for both 5 - 16 year olds as well as adults.

In addition to the new sports courts, the pre existing gym has been completely refurbished with new cardio-vascular machines, free weights and flat screen televisions with all the old equipment has been donated to Select Boxing Club and St Anne's Academy, therefore continuing their use within the local community.

Ian Robertson, the centre manager said: "We are really looking forward to the opening of these new £65k facilities which will enable people of all ages to get fit and healthy. The complex is open from 9am - 10pm Monday to Friday with lots of fun sessions available so we would encourage people to come along and have a look at what's on offer."

The new facilities at Furrow complement the existing artificial sports pitch at St Mary's RC primary school which has over 50 teams using it each week.
