Healey Primary School

Date published: 07 January 2010

Healey Primary School has been open all week despite the adverse weather conditions.

Head teacher, Mrs Taylor said:  “We believe that we serve our community and that as 90% of the children are able to walk to school it is our responsibility to open.  The school benefits from an outstandingly dedicated staff who are determined to make sure the children are not affected by disruptions.

“We have staff coming from the villages well out of Rochdale, and our new teacher walked from Shaw on Tuesday and Wednesday morning – the staff are not under duress to do this at all, they do it because they want to.  Our problems are now with the services – we are running out of food to provide a school meal, however, the cook has managed miraculously and we are grateful to local suppliers for stepping in providing meat etc so a hot meal can be served.

“Many thanks to the parents who have supported and encouraged us, our text alert system is proving to be a superb investment, and as long as the internet is working we will continue to provide our school community with regular updates.”
