Rochdale man jailed as part of drugs gang
Date published: 24 December 2009
Guilty: Kabeer Hussain.
A Rochdale man has been jailed after drugs with a street value of £100,000 were seized by police.
Kabeer Hussain, 30, of Hey Street, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis alongside four other men at Bolton Crown Court.
He was jailed for two-years-and-eight months.
Darren Hancock, from Haslingden, Wayne Whiting from Kent, Khalid Mahmood from Bury, and James Finlay, from Bury, were also sentenced to a total of more than six years.
On Thursday 1 May 2008, Mahmood and Hussain met up with Hancock and Whiting at Roach Bank, Bury. An exchange was witnessed and a package put into the boot of a Peugeot 307.
Whiting left Manchester and travelled on the M6 towards London.
At about 10pm the car Whiting was in was stopped by officers from Greater Manchester Police and Cheshire Constabulary between junction 17 and 18 of the M6.
In the boot of the car were six bin bags of cannabis bush weighing almost 20kg. The drugs had a street value of about £100,000.
The bags were forensically examined and DNA matching Hancock and Finlay was recovered.
Detective Sergeant Nicholas Edge of the Xcalibre Organised Crime Unit said: "The men were involved in a plot to supply a large amount of illegal drugs, which would have undoubtedly hit the streets.
"To make such a large recovery is clearly an excellent result, to get a group of drug dealers locked up is even better."
